A moderate source of niacin. Shiitake mushrooms are known for their distinctive taste and aroma. Perched atop the banks of the Huon River in the idyllic southern Tasmanian hamlet of Glen Huon you will find the home of Taskinoko Pty Ltd. The name is a derivative of the Japanese word for mushroom, okinoko, or Huon Valley Mushrooms, as the locals know them. Compared to cultivated mushrooms they are higher in kilojoules and do not have the extensive range of B vitamins and iron. Store up to 7 days, unwashed in a dry brown paper bag in the fridge.
